Exposition personnelle de fin de résidence à Porto Alegre, au Brésil. Cette résidence est le fruit d'une collaboration entre l'Alliance Française de Porto Alegre, la Fontion Ibêre Camargo et la Cité Intermondes de La Rochelle.

L’exposition « Immersion » marque l’aboutissement d’une résidence artistique riche et inspirante pour Manon Diemer à Porto Alegre, au Brésil. Pendant un mois et demi, l’artiste a eu le privilège de vivre et de travailler chez l’illustre peintre brésilien Iberê Camargo et à la Fondation qui porte son nom. Immergée dans l’univers de cet artiste emblématique, Manon Diemer a exploré les profondes résonances entre leurs démarches artistiques respectives, découvrant avec émotion comment leurs thèmes s’entrecroisent et se répondent.

Paysage, eau, urbanisation et leurs mutations rapides sont les fils conducteurs entre Camargo et Diemer, entre passé et présent, entre France et Brésil. Durant cette immersion, Manon a eu le sentiment de vivre dans une réalité parallèle, où des problématiques similaires – la montée des eaux, les inondations et leur impact sur les territoires humains et naturels – trouvent des échos saisissants et changeants d’un continent à l’autre.

Cette prise de conscience a donné naissance à une série de trois dessins monumentaux, pièce maîtresse de cette exposition. Ces œuvres réinterprètent Porto Alegre comme un lieu métamorphosé par l’eau : une ville submergée où une végétation luxuriante recouvre et transcende les traces d’un passé urbain. Manon Diemer nous invite à contempler ces paysages entre utopie et dystopie. Utopiques, ils suggèrent une possible cohabitation harmonieuse avec l’eau, où l’être humain apprend à s’adapter et à vivre autrement. Dystopiques, ils portent aussi l’empreinte des ruines et des vestiges d’un monde balayé par les catastrophes climatiques.

Porto Alegre, comme l’Europe, a récemment subi la violence des inondations. Mais c’est aussi une ville où la nature résiste, s’épanouit et inspire. Au cours de son exploration, Manon Diemer a été fascinée par la richesse et la variété de la végétation qui peuple la ville. Sous son crayon, ces arbres, témoins silencieux du temps, deviennent des ponts spirituels entre elle et Camargo, qui partageait sans doute son émerveillement devant ces « êtres majestueux ». Ici, leur rôle essentiel est célébré : sources de fraîcheur, remparts naturels contre les inondations, vecteurs de joie et d’espoir.

« Immersion » est une réflexion sur le rapport entre nature et urbanité, sur les tensions et les alliances qui en découlent. À travers cette exposition, Manon Diemer nous invite à repenser nos modes de vie, à questionner nos véritables besoins et à prendre conscience des limites indispensables à une coexistence durable avec notre environnement. The exhibition “Immersion” marks the culmination of a rich and inspiring artistic residency for Manon Diemer in Porto Alegre, Brazil. For six weeks, the artist had the privilege of living and working with the renowned Brazilian painter Iberê Camargo and at the foundation that bears his name. Immersed in the world of this iconic artist, Manon Diemer explored the profound resonances between their respective artistic approaches, discovering with emotion how their themes intersect and respond to one another.

Landscape, water, urbanization, and their rapid transformations are the common threads between Camargo and Diemer, between past and present, between France and Brazil. During this immersion, Manon felt as if she were living in a parallel reality, where similar issues—rising sea levels, flooding, and their impact on human and natural landscapes—find striking and ever-changing echoes from one continent to another.

This realization gave rise to a series of three monumental drawings, the centerpiece of this exhibition. These works reinterpret Porto Alegre as a place transformed by water: a submerged city where lush vegetation covers and transcends the traces of an urban past. Manon Diemer invites us to contemplate these landscapes, poised between utopia and dystopia. Utopian, they suggest a possible harmonious coexistence with water, where humankind learns to adapt and live differently. Dystopian, they also bear the imprint of ruins and vestiges of a world swept away by climate catastrophes.

Porto Alegre, like the rest of Europe, has recently suffered the devastating effects of flooding. But it is also a city where nature resists, flourishes, and inspires. During her exploration, Manon Diemer was captivated by the richness and variety of the vegetation that populates the city. Under her pencil, these trees, silent witnesses to time, become spiritual bridges between her and Camargo, who undoubtedly shared her wonder at these "majestic beings." Here, their essential role is celebrated: sources of coolness, natural barriers against flooding, bearers of joy and hope.

"Immersion" is a reflection on the relationship between nature and urban life, on the tensions and alliances that arise from it. Through this exhibition, Manon Diemer invites us to rethink our lifestyles, to question our true needs, and to become aware of the limits essential for a sustainable coexistence with our environment. May this exhibition take you on a journey where water and vegetation meet, not as obstacles, but as allies in building a more conscious and poetic future.
